Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (Hikma), the multinational pharmaceutical company, today announces t<\/span>hat\u00a0<\/span>Activ Surgical<\/a><\/span><\/u>, a digital surgery pioneer and a portfolio company of\u00a0<\/span>Hikma Ventures<\/a><\/span><\/u>\u00a0\u2013 the strategic venture capital arm of\u00a0<\/span>Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC<\/a><\/span><\/u>, has announced that it has completed its first international surgery using its\u00a0<\/span>ActivSight\u2122 Intelligent Light<\/a><\/span><\/u>\u00a0(ActivSight) at\u00a0<\/span>Abdali Hospital<\/a><\/span><\/u>, a member of the Clemenceau Network, in Amman, Jordan.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ActivSight technology aims to provide advanced visualization in real-time, and on-demand surgical insights in the operating room. ActivSight is an easy-to-adapt module that seamlessly attaches to today\u2019s laparoscopic, robotic systems and integrates with standard monitors providing real-time intelligence and advanced imaging \u2014 including visualization of tissue perfusion \u2013critical to improving patient outcomes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr Mohamad Rassoul Abu-Nuwar, who specializes in general and advanced laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery, foregut, as well as bariatric surgery, performed the surgical bariatric revision procedure at the Abdali Hospital in Amman, Jordan, using ActivPerfusion\u2122 Mode within ActivSight. Ahmad Abu Ghazaleh, Executive Vice Chairman of Abdali Hospital said: \u201cWe at Abdali Hospital pride ourselves in being the Middle East\u2019s prime center for healthcare innovation and pioneering technology. The use of ActivSight by Dr. Abu-Nuwar in surgery demonstrates our commitment to patient-centered excellence.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr Abu-Nuwar had completed a fellowship in\u00a0<\/span>Minimally Invasive Foregut Surgery<\/a><\/span><\/u>\u00a0at the Esophageal Ins<\/span>titute \u2013 West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he was trained on using ActivSight in Esophagectomies for cancer patients. During this program, Dr Abu-Nuwar with Dr Blair Jobe, a world renowned Foregut Surgeon, participated in a\u00a0clinical study<\/a><\/u>\u00a0demonstrating that ActivSight\u2019s Laser Speckle Contrast Imaging (LSCI) provides real-time, repeatable, and on-demand perfusion assessment without dyes to help prevent esophageal anastomotic leaks.<\/span><\/p>\n
